As promised from my previous post last September, an entry about our experience, as three members of our household tested positive for COVID 19.
It was a Friday and my nieces arrived from their grandparents’ house (my sister’s in-laws live in another part of the town). A little background, my nieces stay with their grandparents for a week and then stay here with their parents for a week. To continue, my nieces proceed to play with my daughter when they arrive. Come evening, one of my nieces develops a fever.
Saturday, my niece stays in their room for 24 hours. Her fever subsides and her parents continue to observe her.
Sunday, just before lunch time, my sister informs me that there is a positive cause at her in-laws’ house. We knew right there and then that my niece was most likely infected and we were already exposed. My mom immediately calls our local government and informs them of our situation.
Monday, the local health unit gets our personal information and schedules us for the swab.
Tuesday, we get swabbed.
Wednesday, waiting game. No symptoms from any of us.
Thursday, the results. My niece, my sister, and my daughter have tested positive.
My world went crumbling. My daughter tested positive for COVID 19.
Six months, I was able to keep my daughter safe, and then this.
I tried my best to handle the situation. Since my daughter and I had insurance, I had to confirm if we were covered in case of a “worst case scenario.” Thankfully we never had any symptoms (or so I thought,) and there was no need to use the insurance.
I tried my best to keep my calm, unfortunately, i eventually broke.
This really tested my relationship with my sister. I was hysterical and I said things that were hurtful against my sister. I eventually said sorry after a few hours and I am thankful my sister understood.
Two weeks we were in quarantine, and within those two weeks we found ways to be able to get the necessary food and vitamins we needed.
A big shout out to my friend Ate Lorena and her family for helping us in logistics.
And like what I said in the previous post, the online grocery shopping was a struggle for me.
So when we finally all tested negative on the second swab weeks after quarantine, I was so relieved that I can finally buy the groceries on my own.
Unfortunately my struggle does not end there. Like what i said, I thought I didn’t have symptoms. During that two weeks of quarantine I had a cold because I got soaked in the rain trying to save clothes that were hanging outside and had to me brought in due to the sudden downpour. I rested and took my meds. I felt better after a day or two, but I noticed that I lost my sense of smell and taste.
As of writing, I still have no sense of taste and smell. This is my new struggle as I cannot continue with my pizza business because it would not be right to sell food that I don’t even know the taste. So I am current trying to think of a new business to raise funds.
I would also like to take this opportunity to urge everyone to get their flu vaccine. I have no proof but I think because of the flu vaccine, my daughter, who was highly susceptible due to her asthma, did not show any symptoms despite her exposure.
Everyone, please have yourself injected with the flu and pneumococcal vaccine. The virus is here to stay but there are ways to protect ourselves and our family. This is literally a fight for our lives, arm yourselves with good health and vaccines.
