Summer heat

Dang! This summer heat is killin' it!
🏜🏜🏜☉☉☉🔥🔥🔥

Forty degrees celsius in Abra.
Thirty six degrees celsius in Metro Manila.

Trivia time: When the environmental temperature is the same as that of the human body or higher, we feel lethargic and fatigued. This feeling is a coping mechanism of the body to reduce movement and try to reserve bodily liquids. The release of sweat is a cooling mechanism of the body. Though, excessive perspiration may lead to dehydration and other heat-related illnesses. If the temperature reaches 40 degrees and above, the human body ceases to sweat. When this happens, the body can no longer cool itself - as a result the body overheats. As a last ditch effort to attempt to save its self, the body shuts down. This is when we see people faint or have a heart stoke, but in worse case scenarios, death.

In times like this, we should:

• refrain from direct sunlight specially from noontime until 3pm.

• rehydrate ever so often, specially kids, seniors, pregnant and lactating moms.

• pace your tasks so as not to strain yourself due to the heat.

Keep safe everyone.
